Episode 2 - The Inspiration Behind “Accounting for Deadlines”
Deadlines are a part of life. There are due dates, late fees, and cutoff points for all sorts of projects and tasks. Unfortunately, a lot of people struggle with deadlines and fail to complete their work on time.
That’s the subject of our second episode, Episode 2: Accounting for Deadlines. In Episode 2, Jose and his team of accountants have this exact problem of not meeting deadlines. Due to their inability to meet deadlines, they have a lot of angry clients. This episode illustrates how individuals and teams can make a few simple adjustments to their behavior and start meeting deadlines consistently.
The Story Behind Episode 2
This episode is inspired by an experience related to us by a friend and business owner:
A manager got a call from a very important client. One of the manager's team members was late on the client's project. The delay meant the client was unable to proceed with their projects, and other progress in their organization was delayed. The client was angry.
On top of that, the manager soon found out that two other clients had the same problem. The manager did not have the best time management skills, and his team was worse. They had to either improve their on-time delivery or their company would lose so many clients that the manager and some of his team members would be fired.
This manager asked us for a solution. We taught them the simple habits of time management so everyone on their team could deliver on-time or early. They applied our advice to beat the revised deadline for the angry customer. Then they trained the rest of their team on more powerful time management habits.
Money, trust, and relationships are lost when people are late on their commitments.
This episode provides an example of how to respond to chronic lateness. The characters evaluate the situation, find a solution, agree to improve, and then work together to develop new habits with accountability that eliminates unnecessary delays.
